Fair Isle

What is Fair Isle knitting..?

Here's the definition from wikipedia.org ;

Fair Isle is a traditional knitting technique used to create patterns with multiple colours. It is named after Fair Isle, a tiny island in the north of Scotland, that forms part of the Shetland islands. Fair Isle knitting gained a considerable popularity when the Prince of Wales (later to become Edward VIII) wore Fair Isle tank tops in public in 1921. Traditional Fair Isle patterns have a limited palette of five or so colours, use only two colours per row, are worked in the round, and limit the length of a run of any particular colour.

Some people use the term "Fair Isle" to refer to any colourwork knitting where stitches are knit alternately in various colours, with the unused colours stranded across the back of the work. Others use the term "stranded colourwork" for the generic technique, and reserve the term "Fair Isle" for the characteristic patterns of the Shetland Islands.

Other techniques for knitting in colour include intarsiaslip-stitch colour (also known as mosaic knitting).

Below are the Fair Isle Knitted Beanie completed by me & my partner...we enjoy knitting fair isle knitting as the technique is very simple and yet we can have gorgeous motif once we finish the project.

Blue for boy.

Assalamualaikum & greetings to all readers,

Blue...normally people will relate the blue color with the boys. Like the newborn baby set i just finished knit last Monday. The mother of the baby ask me to match the color with the cloth that he will be wearing during his 'aqiqah' this Saturday. And this navy blue with white is just nice with the cloth.

Hope it fit you well and can keep you warm baby..

Knitting in Public : Kangar, Perlis

Perlis, my hometown!

I've be in Perlis since last Friday for the personal errands. Luckily all the things i need to do has been settled early from the expected date. Means that, i have more time for "me time" as my mom can take care of my cheeky lil girl when im not around.

I try to connect with more crafter, especially knitter who stays in Perlis, when i posted out the status  on facebook, i thought that "hmmmmmm" but it's end up with "wahhhhhhhh" :) . I opened up 5 seats of FOC class for 2 hours. We meet up at Secret Recipe, Kangar and the session started on time at 11am which was finally ended up at 3pm babbbbeeee..(4 hours) hihihihi... you know la..once u start knit and chit chat chit chat with a cup of hot coffee, the time will definitely flew fast..and we did enjoy the time... Time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time - Marthe Troly. :) ok!

In future, i really hope there's more knitter will join the 'Knitting in Public' session. Once a month...or once a week maybe...hehehehehe...

Basic Socks

Sejak balik kampung hari Jumaat lepas sehingga Jumaat (5 Oct) hujan setiap hari di Perlis. Sejuk jer..Balik ke kampung atas sebab urusan tertentu dalam pada masa yang sama, i bring along my hobby cum business thingy hehehe..im a knitter, i cannot leave home without my knitting needle & yarn gituuu...

So, memandangkan cuaca yg lembab dan sejuk sepanjang hari, saya teringin sangat nak knit sock yarn yg dibeli dari Turkey, brand ICE Yarn. This is the 1st batch of sock yarn produce by them, and im eager to knit the yarn since i was in KL..yarn tu actually dah about a month plus duduk kat rak benang..

My friend cum my knitting partner gave me a very simple sock pattern. Jadi apa lagi..tak sabar-sabar la nak knit socks kan. It took about 3 days for me to complete the half pair of the sock. Hehe kata simple, why take so long to finish it up?? I allocate only 1 hour per day, so in total plus minus is about 3hours time for the half pair. Ok la kan...? hehe..

I started casting on 64 stitches and i'm using DPNs Dreamz by Knitpro (2.75mm) , 3 inch ribbing (original pattern is 6 inch), heel, gusset, toe shaping, & lastly was kitchener stitch. Super simple one..you should try..

Hmmmm..before that, ramai mesti akan tanya..why you have to knit a pair of socks if you can have 3 pairs for RM10-budget socks / RM25-tebal sikit la. Im a knitter.. i love to try new thing & plus socks yg kita knit sendiri the value is not the same as the machine made socks... the value of "kasihsayangness" hehehe..kan..it's a precious thing.. :) so ladies and gentleman apa lagi tunggu..learn knitting now.. make a pair of socks for your loved one...(mak,abah, husband, anak-anak, adikberadik, sedaramara). Sekian & selamat mencuba....
